Winter Tree

March 29, 2019

winter tree

I thought I escaped the harshness of winter.
Its early twilight and long, dark days
Cold and biting me with words
The warmth hidden behind clouds of gray.

I thought winter was gone,
But the bleak, lifeless season loomed
My frosty heart so cold
No signs of blossoms or blooms.

I thought winter was over.
But when the sun returned
I waited still for the emerging stems
Of all that had been learned.

I thought I left winter behind,
And its harsh realities
That I lay dormant so long,
But, I see winter followed me.
This waiting… when will it end.
When will winter end?
