Oh God, in Your hand
Is the breath of all living things
As broken people seek to love,
They hurt, wound, and sting.
All parts of the body
Pushing, pulling, and severing.
Is this process better than a cross?
More potent than the lashes?
When you took them upon your back
Can we rise up from the ashes?
May we call upon the grace in which we lack!
To become more like You, Lord
You gave us one another.
May we submit to the 3 cord
Your plan for sisters and brothers.
This great big family I’m in
All chosen and adopted
All redeemed from our sin,
Made righteous, our iniquities all blotted.
May I keep this covenant now
That I made to each of them
Even when I want to run away
No matter the outcome, I wait.
I choose to love them, God
Just as Your Son
Took the place for us
The victory of love was won.
“I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they be one even as we are one, I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me.” -John 17:20-23
