Ever see God’s character in Scripture as exactly who you need Him to be for you in the season of your Christian walk that you’re in? Like I said in previous posts, I have been studying through 1 and 2 Samuel and starting 1 Kings over the summer. God’s perfect justice and perfect love have been on display over and over. David, the man who keeps the commandments of His God and seeks Him desperately, is protected from his enemies over and over. God, our Dragon Slayer, overcomes the enemies of His beloved children whom He covenants Himself to and causes them to sing “As the Lord lives and redeems my soul from EVERY adversity…” (1 Kings 1:29). David knew this. I know this. He redeems my soul from every adversity. Even the ones I create for myself unnecessarily. This summer I have seen how the Lord has gone to war for me. Over my sin, over my enemy, over my own self-sufficiency, over my self-indulgence, over my pride. He has waged war for my soul. What grace….
Dragon Slayer
You took up Your cross
And wielded it into a sword
To overcome the enemy
To be named Christ our Lord.
You slay the wicked
And rescue the chosen,
Bringing light from the dark
Your Spirit now blows in.
From every direction
You defeat the Dragon,
My Rescuer, my Redeemer,
I wave my white flag in
Submission to the finished work on the cross.
Oh my Dragon Slayer.
“From the ashes a fire shall be woken, a light from the shadow shall spring. Renewed shall be blade that was broken. The crownless again shall be King”
-Arwen (Lord of the Rings)
